Day Three: First Day of Teaching

Today was my first day of teaching! I started out with Ms. Molthen's 2nd-grade class and they were great! Everybody was so enthusiastic to learn and it was a lot of fun teaching them.  I got them started on the Dice Simulator and most of them are working on or done with creating the faces of the die.

Next, the 5th graders came to the Green Room (Morning Announcements Room) and we walked through CodeHS's Karel lesson in Java. We got through the first lesson and I think they will be able to progress through it at a steady rate. Afterwards, I went back to working on the Dice Simulator with Mr. Long's 2nd-grade class. Everybody was really excited, especially the group of girls in my Lunch Bunch, who spent part of their lunch coding in Scratch with me. Once I dropped them off at the cafeteria, I went back to eat lunch with Erica and Mrs. Tyree in the Library. It was fun chatting with them and learning about their family.

When I finished lunch, I went to Mr. Hammler's 3rd-grade class to teach them how to make the Dice Simulator in Scratch. When their session ended, Ms. Wilt's 3rd-grade kids came out and we also worked on the Dice Simulator.
All my sessions made good progress and most of the students working on Scratch have finished creating their Dice Sprites.  Next time we will work on block coding to make the Dice randomly chance costumes/faces. For the 5th graders, we will continue working on the CodeHS curriculum.
